406 ELTs.

ICAO  Annex 6 Part 1, Chapter 6.  and  JAR OPS 1.82

As yet this is not a requirement for these aircraft, but every indications that either an install or a portable unit will be required soon.

A long-standing mandate for all Public Transport category has been in place for some time. In most applications this requires the fitting or carriage of more than one applicable unit.

Plug-and-play replacements for many "old" 121.5MhZ units are available as well as "virgin" fit units from Kannad

and Artex

In some countries and in some categories of aviation a PLB (a hand-held 406MhZ emergency locator) may be considered acceptable to meet the mandate, once it's evolved

Monitoring of the 121.5MhZ beacons stops on Feb 2009 worldwide. Mandates will be introduced across the EU before that on a "per country" basis, but all with completion required before that date.

UK CAA Mode S information is available at www.caa.co.uk/modes

Starting from 31st March 2008 Flights in the UK at and above FL100 and IFR flights in controlled airspace below FL100 will require Mode S transponders.

From 31st March 2008 aircraft already required to carry a transponder will be required to become Mode S compliant (subject to a transition period).

Garmin, Filser and Garrecht enhanced and elementary units, some as replacements for existing mode C transponders

The UK CAA have allowed a four year transition period for aircraft already fitted with Mode A/C transponders. All aircraft being brought into service with a transponder must be Mode S (Elementary) compliant by March 31st 2008.

Certified Lifejackets over water.

CAA ANO issue …

The latest issue of the ANO said that all flights over water must carry certified life-jackets. An exemption was promptly raised as the best jackets for G.A. aircraft are “yoke type” and these are rarely certified.

No change. All safety equipment in Public Transport aircraft must be certified.

For public transport aircraft the MK20SV gives you the lowest life-costs of any certified life-jacket.

It’s no longer legal to fly over water without a life-jacket, but it does NOT need to be a certified unit so the Adams  Aviation  “FlySafe”

is an ideal solution for G.A.
